American Red Cross - Administering Emergency Oxygen

This class gives participants the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to a victim of a breathing emergency using breathing devices, including resuscitation masks, bag-valve-mask resuscitators (BVMs) and emergency oxygen.

Class Content:

  • Describe the importance of administering emergency oxygen
  • List the steps required to administer emergency oxygen
  • Identify different oxygen delivery devices and when to use them
  • List the precautions to take when using emergency oxygen
  • Demonstrate how to properly remove disposable gloves
  • Demonstrate how to use a resuscitation mask and BVM to ventilate a nonbreathing victim
  • Demonstrate how to prepare the oxygen equipment and administer emergency oxygen to a breathing or a nonbreathing victim
Prerequisite: Current CPR certification

Class Time: 1 - 2 hours

Certificate: 2 years

PADI - Emergency Oxygen Provider

Providing emergency oxygen requires special training and procedures. Improper handling, deployment, and administeration of pure oxygen can be dangerous and hazardous, so make sure you get the necessary training needed to be safe and effective. This PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) Specialty course will certify you to provide pure 100% oxygen to someone in case of an emergency. There is no expiration date for this certification.

Certificate: Never expires
